One week later – TipFinder v1.1

In my earlier post last week when i released TipFinder v1 I mentioned a few items which I wanted to do in the next release, however I realized a key problem with TipFinder now is the inability to map the venue so you can physically start moving yourself to the location, so that was the focus for the past week and here are the updates!

1. New logo and icons

TipFinder is now sporting a new icon (first one), refresh icons have been implemented for the header bar (see below for more details), and wifi/gps related error messages now have icons.

2. Image Store

Images are now stored in a .cache instead of cache so gallery apps should no longer pick up all those faces (thanks @kirillrdy for the suggestion)

3. Google Maps Integration

A click handler has been added to the list items, so when you click on a tip, a map will open showing your current location as a green dot, and a star to represent the location of the venue mentioned in the tip.

This is a static map and will not update unless you go back to the list view and re-click a tip. I will look into updating the map view so the green dot moves with you – not creepy at all!

4. Header and Footer Bar

A header and footer bar have been added to the user interface to give you more information

The refresh menu button has been stripped out and placed on the header bar instead (much like the Twitter for Android UI). It will only be green (and pressable) when the user’s location changes, if the location remains the same, it will be grey and disabled.

The footer now displays the current location your GPS has picked up.

So… that’s it! Hope you guys enjoy the update. Also want to give a shout out to anyone that’s installed and gave my little app a try, much appreciated. Please keep passing on your feedback to me, and I’ll try merge it into the next version. Also thanks to @punnned, @anthonyalsop and @CollinVanUden for helping spread the word!

Update: TipFinder is now available via the Android Market – just search “TipFinder” – click here to read more
